Nationwide Backbone Network
After years of dedication to the continuous expansion and modernization of its network, Rostelecom now has the most extensive and sophisticated telecommunications infrastructure in Russia.
The Company owns and operates a technologically advanced nationwide backbone network, enabling the provision of telecommunications services across the country.
The network is nearly 150,000 km in length, with a 95% digitalization rate (in channel-kilometers) and the total number of POPs is above 350.
Rostelecom’s network is structured around up-to-date fiber-optic lines connecting Moscow with Novorossiysk, Khabarovsk, and St. Petersburg. The Company continues to upgrade the established ring protection of its network in the Central, North-West, Southern, Volga and Ural regions. The creation of self-healing rings (SHR) based on geographically diverse redundancy routes is underway in the Siberian and Far East regions of Russia.
The network links together eighty eight Automatic Trunk Exchanges in seventy seven regions of the Russian Federation through digital lines.
The Company’s network is based on eight high-capacity Automatic Switching Nodes and thirteen International Switching Centers. As of today, the switching capacity is 100% digital.
